Genearlly spoken:
That the interest for this section of the Aquariumhobby is dwindling, does not mean that the central American Cichlids aren't worth bothering about. In general it are Aquarium fishes par excellence, assuming that one has some room at ones disposition. Because big or less big, none of them all would be satisfied with a small tank. And the smallest of them grow will always become at least 10 CMS. De far biggest easily 70 cm. But apart from their want for room, open swimming room but also room for hiding-places, which they will use to chose for the lee for a moment during a fight for the order of rank or to establish on a favorable place their territory and nesting place, the greater part dispose of quality's that make them good aquarium-fishes On the first place there are the colors

that amply reveal themselves in the survey above, but also most of them are distinct temperamental. That makes the "watching fishes before the pane" to a more than only an interesting pass time. They choose a territory, that they defend against congeners and other fishes, dig tremendous holes at which the throw the bottom materials up until high against the window, to take away in that way the sight at their activities, carefully clean a flat stone or a peace of peak to put on it at least their spawn; a large number of little eggs. And during this range of acts they mutually communicate with all kinds of movements but particulary color changes play an important role. And the almost touching care for spawn and offspring, that activates to humanize the animals, and appeals to the imagination of many an aquarist.
